A city man was charged with attempting to bribe a police officer after a motor vehicle stop in South Norwalk. Dale Booker, 20, of 60 Lawn St., was charged with bribery, driving while under the influence, reckless driving, criminal attempt at bribery and failure to have his headlights lit. Norwalk bank robbery suspect arrested on street

NORWALK -- Police said they arrested the man responsible for robbing the Main Avenue Bank of America on Monday morning, less than 24 hours after the crime occurred.
Credit for the arrest was given to veteran patrol supervisor Sgt. James Walsh, who spotted Edward Schanck on North Main Street in South Norwalk at about 8 a.m. The convicted bank robber was seen getting into a car that police believe was used in Schanck's bank robbery getaway, a police press release states.

Man acquitted in 2009 stabbing is shot in South Norwalk

NORWALK -- A former Norwalk resident acquitted in a Bridgeport man's stabbing death in 2009 was shot in the head in South Norwalk Friday afternoon and has been placed on life support, police said.
Amos "A.J." Brown, 18, was in a car in front of the El Coqui bodega on Lexington Avenue when he was shot in the back of the head, police sources said.
Brown was still breathing when he was rushed to Norwalk Hospital. A police source later reported Brown was barely clinging to life.

Fire in Norwalk disrupts train service

DANBURY -- A fire in South Norwalk disrupted train service between Danbury and South Norwalk Friday morning.
MTA North issued an alert saying, "Busing is in effect between Merritt 7 and South Norwalk Danbury Branch service due to fire department activity in the vicinity of South Norwalk. Train service is operating between Danbury and Merritt 7," according to WTNH news.
The fire started at a Mexican restaurant on Wall Street in Norwalk at about 5 a.m., WTNH reported.

Norwalk fire affects Metro-North

Norwalk, Conn. (WTNH) - Injuries are reported at a fire at Norwalk building that houses apartments and a restaurant this morning, and the fire affected some Metro-North Danbury Branch service.
The fire happened at 45 Wall Street around 5:00 a.m. That's the address of Garibaldi Mexican Grill restaurant. There are also apartment units on the upper floors.
The fire was still burning more than two hours later.
According to WABC-TV, residents were rushed to safety after a passing police officer spotted the flames.
We don't know specifically how many people are being assisted at this time. The Red Cross is on the scene.

STAMFORD -- A Norwalk man who beat a rape charge because a DNA match did not occur until 17 years after the crime was committed was sentenced Tuesday to serve nine years in jail on a kidnapping charge from the 1992 incident, where a woman was dragged off a South Norwalk street and sexually assaulted.
Anthony Draughn, 39, formerly of 100 San Vincenzo Place, was sentenced by Judge Richard Comerford at state Superior Court in Stamford Tuesday morning.
